Jens Kuross

Hailing from the Idaho Rocky Mountains, drummer Jens Kuross brings a unique sound and energy to the LA jazz scene. Having first developed musically in the Idaho punk rock and bar band scene, he picked up his first jazz gig in a piano trio at the ripe old age of fifteen. He immediately fell in love with jazz, and in 2005 graduated with a degree in performance from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he studied with Joe Lovano, Ralph Peterson, John Hazilla, Ian Froman, Victor Mendoza and Dave Santoro.

Jens now resides in Los Angeles where he has earned a formidable reputation in both the Jazz and Rock/Pop circles. He is an original member of the Los Angeles Jazz Collective, an organization dedicated to the development of an increasingly vibrant LA jazz scene by way of performance and education/outreach. Jens has performed with Bob Mintzer, Matt Otto, Brian Swarts, and Charles Altura to name a few. He has also toured internationally, playing at the Himalayan Blues Festival with guitar virtuoso Chris Schriener in 2008, as well as being picked up to play for Australian pop-star Ry Cuming, opening for Maroon 5 on their Palm Trees and Power Lines Tour. Jens was subsequently hired by several M5 members to play on their individual recording projects. He is currently staying busy playing the local LA jazz hotspots, teaching a few lucky students, and working on his Masters Degree from Azusa Pacific University. Jens has gone over 70mph on a snowboard. Jens can kill a marmot at 600yrds. Jens cannot afford health insurance.
